Overview
Techtium’s Small-Capacitor AC/DC Power Supply (SCAD™) redefines traditional flyback power supply topology to achieve much smaller solution size with significantly higher lifetime and reliability.
While standard power supplies typically use no more than 30% of the energy stored in the main reservoir capacitors, Techtium’s SCAD uses 85% of the capacitor’s stored energy, make much better utilization of the capacitor.
To make these benefits possible, Techtium uses two controllers – on for the primary side and one for the secondary – and places the energy capacitors on the output from the primary and input to the secondary. This allows much easier solution design since each controller can focus on.
In addition to the smaller size and high reliability there are other benefits built into the SCAD™ design:
- Very high efficiency at full and partial load
- High efficiency at low load
- Very low standby power
- Easily controlled high Power Factor
- Designed to achieve high reliability (MTBF & lifetime)
- Very wide input voltage range necessary for emerging markets’ electrical networks
These benefits enable creating unique power supply solutions for medical, communication and consumer markets. They also can be translated into reduced lifecycle costs when all factors are included (mechanical design, shipping, maintenance, disposal, etc.)
AC-DC Controller Products
TEC501 is Techtium’s first ECO-friendly AC-DC Current Mode primary-side controller.
TEC505 is Techtium’s SCAD™ Quasi-resonant AC-DC Current Mode primary-side controller.
TEC602 is Techtium’s SCAD™ secondary-side synchronous controller.
